Why Choose Us?
We are here for you! We are committed to providing your pet with the best veterinary care possible and providing a stress-free experience for both you and your pet. Mobile veterinary care is super convenient and saves you time – we come to you which means no busy waiting rooms. Pets are much more relaxed in their home environment – this is great for all pets, but especially for our more anxious animal friends. Maybe your pet does not like car trips, or noisy environments or maybe they have limited mobility. Home visits are great for all but means we can cater for those patients who otherwise may struggle to access the care they deserve

Meet Dr. Matilda Hunter – Veterinarian and Founder
Dr Matilda is our veterinarian and founder of Hills Home Vet. Matilda graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2012 and has had a wide and varied experience in veterinary medicine. She started her career in a busy small animal hospital in Geelong, before heading overseas for two years, living and working in a small, rural town in the UK. Matilda then returned home and has since worked locally in the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley in various roles before deciding in 2025 to establish Hills Home Vet. Matilda is a Hill's local and is so thrilled that she can contribute positively to the pets and people of her local community.
Matilda genuinely enjoys working as a vet and feels privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the bond between people and their pets. Matilda is passionate about problem solving and tailoring care to the individual animal. Matilda founded Hills Home Vet so she would have the ability to spend more time with her patients and build a deep rapport with them and in so, ensure that they have not only the best care developed specifically for them, but also that they would feel calm and relaxed in a safe space – at home. Many of Matilda’s own pets have not been suited to care in the traditional clinic setting for various reasons – a 1.7kg chihuahua who is intimidated by larger dogs; an elderly gentlemanly labrador with arthritis who used to struggle in the car; a blind cat who was anxious to be out of the comfort of his own environment where he felt safe; as well as an extremely high energy GSP who struggled with severe anxiety… Matilda definitely understands the benefit of veterinary home visits!
Matilda is enthusiastic about her profession and regularly participates in continuing education so she can provide her patients with choice and the most up to date treatments. Matilda enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but is particularly interested in treating medical cases, preventative health care and treating senior pets and backyard chickens. She also has a special interest in treating behavioural cases and has taken further training in this area.
Matilda’s second identity is “mum”. She shares her home and life with her very patient husband, four small human children, who keep her busy and entertained, as well as the world’s smallest chihuahua. When she is not practising as a vet or parenting, Matilda enjoys walking, running, mountain biking and just generally exploring the great outdoors, especially around her beloved Hill’s home.
